Who would have known that the current #1 Rock hit on the US radio was not even considered worthy of being included on an album! The song “Walk,” which was released as the last track on the new FOO FIGHTERS album “Wasting Light” and also as the album’s second single, was originally written for their last studio album, “Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace,” but was not even included on it!
As revealed by frontman Dave Grohl in recent interviews following the success of the single, he decided to put the final version as the last track of “Wasting Light” because it “sort of makes sense to the album’s theme of time and second chances”, and to “end the record on a positive note.”
Well, Mr. Grohl, it sure is one hell of a positive note! The song dethroned the FOO FIGHTERS lead single “Ropes,” also from “Wasting Light,” on the Billboard Rock Songs chart to reach the top, a very rare feat indeed. The song is also #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart for three consecutive weeks and on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart for two consecutive weeks now.
The music video also won the Best Rock Video award at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
